Who makes a Christian to become a saint? Is it our good works? Is it a certain committee that sits somewhere and decides that one has done enough to earn sainthood? Well personal for me and Biblically for all the plain answer is a no! “Why do you say that?” You’d ask. Well the reason is this…I believe that God has revealed all His truth through His Word (The Holy Bible). You see we need to put aside church traditions and doctrines of men and go back to what Jesus says in His Word
I Corinthians 1:1-2
1 “Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be SAINTS, with all That in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:” (KJV)
As you can see in the scriptures above that all the Christians who had put faith in Christ’s perfect sacrifice on the cross for their sins were now called saints…simply for that fact..they had believed the gospel and had become saved/born again and now in God’s eyes they were saints. God does not hold anyone above the other but all are called to be saints as long as they have believed in Christ Jesus and have a personal relationship with Him.
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (KJV)
In the above verses we can clearly see that NO ONE can be saved by their good works. Why is that? Remember in James 2:10 that God tells us that if one keeps the whole law and yet offends in one or breaks one law he/she is guilty of all. And that is why NO ONE from the beginning of creation until the end of the world can be able to stand before a Holy God and have their works save them.
Gal 2:16-21
16 “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. 17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. 18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. 19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.” (KJV)
Am I Patrick Maiyo against good works? No! By no means no! In fact I encourage all to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, take care of widows and orphans, give wholeheartedly etc. I totally commend the work Irene did in Kenya (Nyeri?) and she should be an inspiration to all. But does the work she did make her more qualified to become a saint? No. In God’s eyes she has done that which pleases Him but her works can never be able to save her. Thank you
