I’m Not Ashamed!

Are you sometimes ashamed of the Gospel of Christ? Well you certainly are not the first and the last person to experience this feeling of ‘shame’ of professing and or sharing your Christianity. Timothy who happened to be a young man in the ministry seemed to have been been going through the same feeling at times and so Paul exhorts and encourages him in the first chapter of II Timothy.

I believe that this shame usually comes about as a result of fear: fear of man, fear of rejection, fear of ridicule, fear of persecution etc.

Proverbs 29:29
The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.(KJV)

The verse above tells us that the fear of man brings us into a snare. Many times we are ashamed of the Gospel because of the reactions we think that people will give us. That simply put is the fear of man and it hinders us many times from sharing the gospel or standing up for what is right. Whenever you feel that feeling of shame or intimidation always pray and confess who you are; that God has not given you a spirit of fear but of power, of love and of a sound mind. Amen!

Read the following scriptures over and over again:

Romans 1:16-17
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. (KJV)

II Tim 1:7-8
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; (KJV)

Meditate them and pray over them until your mind is in line with your spirit and you can be able like Paul to stand before kings, like Daniel and his three friends (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) to stand before emperors and their large empires and like Peter and the disciples to stand before the Sanhedrin without shame or any fear. Notice how Peter was such a coward that he denied Jesus three times but when he was filled with the Holy Spirit he could stand before anyone and boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 4:13, 18-21). His manner of death attests to this; he was crucified upside down.

Don’t get me wrong friend. You may never stop feeling the feeling of fear or shame but you do not have to surrender to your feelings. Just coz your heart is beating fast when you are confronted with a situation of sharing or defending the Gospel does not mean that God has not given you a bold spirit (II Tim 1:7). Refuse to go by your feelings but rather go by what the Word of God says about you. The Gospel is not some cheap story, fable or legend. It is a powerful message (Rom 1:16; I Cor 2:1-4) that saves our souls and transforms our lives forever. “Feelings are liars!” Smith Wigglesworth (a man known for his boldness and faith) once said. Remember that we are to walk by faith not by sight (II Cor 5:7) and that the just are to live by faith (Rom 1:17; Gal 3:11) and not by sight, or rather in this case, not by feelings. Amen 🙂
