EVERLASTING RIGHTEOUSNESS

It’s been two years now since I entered into Christ’s rest and became established in His righteousness. I had fought off for about 6 months the Gospel of Grace. I tried to run away from this great truth and intellectually fought off its legitimate Scriptural claims. It all seemed too easy, too cheap. And what if it was a license for sin? I finally surrendered in mid-May 2020 at the height of the pandemic. Has it been a license to sin? No. Far from it because it has been the power to overcome sin. I AM THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS.

“The Lord Jesus received is holiness begun; the Lord Jesus cherished is holiness advancing; the Lord Jesus counted upon as never absent would be holiness complete.

Believer, you mourn your shortcomings; you find the hated monster, sin, still striving for the rule. Evil is present when you would do good. Help is laid up for you in Christ. Seek clearer interest in Him. They who most deeply feel that they have died in Christ, and paid in Him sin’s penalties, ascend to highest heights of godly life. He is most holy who has most of Christ within, and joys most fully in the finished work. It is defective faith which clogs the feet, and causes many a fall.” – Henry Law (1867)

Oh, how liberating it is to live with the assurance that comes from the Gospel of Grace! An assured identity in Jesus Christ. This theme is echoed in the following poem that was written by the Scottish poet, Horatius Bonar (1808-1889):

“Yes, for me, for me He careth

With a brother’s tender care;

Yes with me, with me He shareth

Every burden, every fear.

Yes, o’er me, o’er me He watcheth,

Ceaseless watcheth, night and day;

Yes, e’en me, e’en me He snatcheth

From the perils of the way.

Yes for me He standeth pleading

At the mercy seat above;

Ever for me interceding,

Constant in untiring love.

Yes, in me, in me He dwelleth;

I in Him, and He in me!

And my empty soul He filleth,

Here and through eternity.”
