Ten years ago I received the greatest gift I could ever and will ever receive. If I had been given a car it would have been old by now, if it was a phone or a laptop it would be outdated. If it had been something edible I would have finished it in a few days. “What was it?” you may ask, and “who gave this gift to you?”
On Tuesday, 29th of May 2012 (two days to my birthday), I was baptized with the Holy Spirit
and with fire
. Jesus baptized me in a mighty way and a decade later the fire is burning briskly in me!

“How is this a gift?” you may ask. Jesus said that if our earthly parents though being evil give us good gifts, how much more would our Heavenly Father give the Holy Ghost to them that ask Him? – Luke 11:9-13
In Acst 1:4-8 and Luke 24:49, Jesus told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father that they would be endowed with power from on high. Well, I got this gift and no amount of money, riches etc. could ever come close to this amazing birthday gift I received in 2012.
I remember those days and how hungry I was for God. I never knew hunger like I did those innocent days in the university for my Saviour. He did say after all in John 7:37-39 that if anybody is thirsty that those that would go to Him and drink, that out of their bellies would flow rivers of living water. That Tuesday evening I received the baptism but it was not until 6 months later (Wednesday evening, 25th November 2012) that I began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave me utterance.
The Master said that we would receive power to be witnesses. What does a witness do? They simply say what they have seen, heard or experienced. That’s all. “All I know is that I was blind but now I see.” In Acts 1:8 He said that we would be witnesses in different locations. For me my Jerusalem is Mombasa, Judea is Coast Province, Samaria (Nairobi lol) and then there is the uttermost parts of the earth.
I have been witnessing Christ’s resurrection since I was 20.
But these last few months have been “the book of Acts like”. I have been on a somewhat missionary journey for 5 months in 3 different counties, in different Churches (every kind and location), crusade grounds, homes, streets, online, on TV etc. I have preached, taught, evangelised, prayed for the sick (and Jesus healed them), cast out devils, got people filled with the Holy Ghost and also discipled Christians. It has been a wholesome ministry. I read through Acts 20 on the SGR on the way back home and I was humbled because it’s a little similar with what the great Apostle did (and we do too purely by the Grace of God).
And as I turn a year older today I realise that this is just the beginning. What is my hope? Philippians 1:6.
And what about you, how can you receive this gift? Can you work for it? No! A gift is not merited or earned, rather it is given because of relationship. It is neither a price nor is it a reward or a wage. Who has qualified you? Well, Christ did on the Cross (mediate on His perfect life, vicariousdeath and gloriousresurrectionfor you). By His shed blood you deserve the anointing (Ephesians 4:7-20). All you need to do is just ask and receive by faith (Romans 4:3-5). Read through Luke 11:9-13 & John 7:37-39 again.
Ask God right where you are. Say,”Lord Jesus, baptise me with your Holy Spirit and Fire” and see what will happen to you. That prayer of faith cannot leave you the same again.
It is a priceless gift and I value it more than ALL the world has to offer. I once said to a cousin of mine (who I had laid hands on and was filled with the Spirit) that if I was given a trillion dollar cheque on the condition that I never pray in tongues again (but I can pray in English or Swahili) that I would tear that cheque or even chew it ![]()
Kenneth E. Hagin once said, “I’m like Smith Wigglesworth, I’d rather have the Holy Ghost on me for ten minutes than to own the whole world
with a fence around it.”
Soli Deo gloria ![]()
