GRACE > LAW

Spiritual adultery happens when I, who has been saved still gazes at the Law, trying to justify myself before God by my works (Scripture: Romans 7:1-6). We are saved by grace alone through faith. It is the gift of God, not of works and so no one can boast.

The infidelity happens mostly through ignorance of Christ’s perfect, Finished Work and sometimes through unbelief i.e. the reluctance to believe what God’s Word says about you because of what you see and experience. The just lives by faith not by feelings and he/she walks by faith not by sight. What is faith? To be persuaded of what is promised which as of yet cannot be experienced by your physical senses.

For a long time I ignorantly ran back to the Law though I had been delivered from a performance based relationship with God, my “Abba,” Father through what Christ did for me ✝️ (Phil 3:9).

Always remember this, the Law demands but Grace supplies. The moment you feel under pressure and the demand to perform you have gone back to the Law. Watchman Nee (1903-1972) said, “Law means I work, God rests, Grace means God works and I Rest.”

The Law will continue for eternity. My relationship with the Law as my former husband was very demanding and stressful because I could not fulfill his high expectations. Why couldn’t I? Is the Law sinful? No, the Law is perfect and holy but my flesh is sold under sin. I inherited Adam’s sin through his disobedience. The strength of sin is the Law (1 Cor 15:56) and so when the Law demand something of me, my weakness is made manifest (Rom 7:7-24).

And since I am already married to the Law, how then can I be married to another man? Just the thought of it would be adulterous. And that’s where the preciousness of our Lord’s work comes in: John 19:30.

When Christ died, I died with Him too (Rom 6:1-11; Gal 2:20-21; 5:23-24; Phil 3:10-11; Col 3:1-4). When He rose, I rose with Him (Rom 6:11; Eph 2:4-6). The Law cannot follow me beyond the grave. I am in another realm altogether. He can make as many demands as he wants to but I am forever freed from his tyranny.

And now I’m legitimately married to Him (JESUS) who has higher demands but with every demand He makes, He Himself fulfills it in me. The pressure is on Him, not me. He is the True Vine, I am the branch. The branch does nothing but Rest and depend wholly on the tree. I Rest and He does the whole work (Eph 2:10; Heb 4:3, 9-10). In fact He both wills in me and does the work for His own good pleasure (Phil 2:13). And what is His Will? My sanctification/holiness (1 Thess 4:3-4, 7).

And so, even when I miss it, the blame is not on me. If you found a tree that had no fruit would you blame the branch? No. The blame would be on the tree. I have been grafted in (Rom 11:16-17; 1 John 4:17) and all that is required on my part is faith. Just believe (Rom 4:3-5, 17-25).

That’s what the Apostle Paul meant when he said that ALL things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according His purpose. The born again Christian has been predestined, called, chosen, justified (made rightoeus), sanctified (set apart as holy) and glorified. It’s a complete salvation you see, and one that grants the restless soul eternal peace because He who has began this good work will be faithful to complete it 🤩 (1 Cor 1:7-9; Phil 1:6).
