Dying to self means that you reach the complete end of yourself and you realise you cannot do anything good and that you were never good AT ALL in the first place. This is an aspect of #brokenness that looks to Jesus COMPLETE LY for a full salvation from all corruption (sin)
The Apostle Paul reached there and that was the watershed moment of the victory he found in Christ. He famously says in Romans 7:22-8:2,
“I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring [fighting] against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am!”
“Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!”
Notice that He gives thank to God and Jesus Christ, not himself or his selfefforts because they are the very things that brought his predicament. He gives thank to the Lord because it is the Lord that has worked that which is good in Him. It’s 100% Jesus and that is the #Gospel
He goes on to say,
“So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.”
BUT (Here’s the Gospel, the Good News):
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”
