A BETTER COVENANT 😇

Beware of covenants that diminish the New Covenant  based on Christ’s Finished Work (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 8). The old covenant good as it has lost it’s glory and has been replaced by a ministry not of condemnation that brings death but of the Spirit that gives life (2 Corinthian 3:3-18). Jesus ordained the new covenant the night of His passion over the Passover meal (Mark 14:22-26). When we break Bread, we remember His body that was broken for us and His Blood that was shed for us.

Passover is a picture of the Christian’s redemption from Egypt (the world) and bondage to Pharaoh (the devil) into the freedom and riches of the Promised Land (rest). To enter God’s rest is to cease from your own work and put faith on Jesus’s perfect work for you. It is a place of resting and trusting. Not striving striving or struggling. The hindrance to this bliss is not sin really but rather unbelief i.e. the inability to believe by faith (without feelings and or sight) what God has done for you, said you are in His Word and what He has and will accomplish in you and for you (read Hebrews 3 & 4 for context and further understanding).

Hebrews 8:6 tells us that two millenia ago Christ ordained for us a better covenant established on better promises. The old covenant established in Sinai was based on performance. You were blessed or cursed based on your ability/inability to keep God’s laws. The problem is you and I cannot keep God’s Law because of the sinful nature found in this body of sin, the flesh. The more Laws are introduced the more our sinfulness manifests (Romans 7).

But, I thank God for this everyday,  Jesus came and fulfilled all the righteous requirements of God’s standards of perfection and holiness. He then payed the penalty for our sins by His own previous Blood and then He rose again for our justification.

The wise person gives up on a performance based religion and rests on a faith that is in Christ alone (Philippians 3:9). WHOSOEVER believes in Him is saved and will not be confounded (ashamed). I put my faith and trust in the faithfulness of Christ alone. That is where my boasting; the Cross of Christ. Without a doubt I now know that I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. This is not a temporary reprieve. No, it’s an eternal covenant sealed by the Blood of Jesus, that precious Blood of the everlasting covenant that speaks better things than that of Abel. Now in Christ’s covenant I have everlasting righteousness, eternal redemption. – Joshua 24:25; Daniel 9:24; Galatians 2:19-21; Philippians 3:3, 9; Hebrews 9:12, 14
