Brokenness

Brokenness is a subject that is rarely discussed today and I would love you to explore and pursue it. Smith Wigglesworth powerfully said that, “All things are possible when you know how to die. To die is to live. You cannot have His life if you seek your own (1 Cor. 13:5). All God’s blessings are waiting for you at the end of your life given up for Him. Seek first the Kingdom of God; then all things shall be added unto you.”

What a statement! The revelation in those simple words and sentences makes me emotional as I type this. This is a school I have been going through for a while now. Ever since I began to seek God, which has been since the time I became a Christian in late August 2011. The Holy Spirit sovereignly led me in this path and the end goal is that I should completely be dead to self! Not an inch or a trace of Patrick Maiyo remaining in me. The Prophet John said, “He must increase but I must decrease” – John 3:30.

Jesus said that “unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.”
He also said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”

You see being broken allows God to clean up the filth that is in you and when our God, who is A Consuming Fire is done, you come out much precious than gold. There is no greater example (apart from the Lord Jesus) that I know of in the Scriptures of brokenness as seen in the life of King David. God had to use Saul to persecute David for 13 years. Why is this the case? The Anointing that was poured on David’s head by the Prophet Samuel only brought him trouble. Derek Prince stated that the way to know a person is baptized in the Holy Spirit is that they attract only one thing: Trouble! David was being put in the refining pot of fire to burn the dross in his heart. Ah, now he became a man after God’s own heart. As Gene Edwards put it in his classic, A Tale Of Three Kings; “God used Saul to kill the saul in David” 😉

Oh, to hunger and thirst after righteousness. The blessedness that comes from being broken and contrite in spirit, poor in spirit as Jesus said to His disciples, is beyond anything you could ever know. This brokenness is when we are completely dead to self that nothing, no amount of money, fame, power, Anointing etc. can cause us to become proud, self seeking or try to share the glory that belongs to God alone. David said, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”

Smith Wigglesworth once stood before a congregation and said to them, “Before God could bring me to this place, He has broken me a thousand times. I wept. I groaned. I travailed until He broke me.” Wigglesworth and Kathryn Kuhlman were used in ways you could not even believe. They carried an anointing, a hunger for Jesus and holiness that few have possessed outside the Scriptures. Their secret was that they were dead to self. Emptied of self completely and then it was that God filled them up with His glory and power so that they carried virtue and would convict sinners in public just by being in their midst. People would fall under the power in the airport, trains, hotels and when they prayed few could withstand the presence of the Holy Spirit in them. In fact Wigglesworth would pray, tears falling from his eyes and after a while the best intercessors and pastors would leave until he was left alone because the Shekinah glory would fill the room and he was left alone communing with Jesus. This happened frequently and an example is seen in New Zealand in 1922.

I desire this. Long for this. To know the Only True God and Jesus Christ whom He sent. To be completely emptied of self so that I can only see Jesus and the world and the flesh will have nothing on me. I will not stop until I get there and when I am there I will always hunger for more and more of Jesus until the day I draw my last breath here on this side of eternity 😭
